We know the Woodbury area fairly well -- Jonathan's cousins live there -- the wealth there is palpable. This isn't singing at A bat mitzvah -- not in any normal sense. Note the other special guests?
Jonathan's cousins, while wealthy, are not rich compared to this girl's family - and when Adam was bar mitzvahed a few years ago, we had to select between going (it was black tie at the Syosset Country Club) OR sending a gift from the MIDDLE of the list - and we are both professional. We sent the gift, though to Adam's credit, he later told Jonathan he would rather we had come (he understood without having it explained that we couldn't afford both) and that he missed us -- which impressed me from a boy raised with no wants whatsoever in a house with multiple servants and other amenities that we couldn't even really imagine.
The Sanjaya that everyone fell in love with is the one with the ponyhawk and the big eyes when he went to the salon with the girl. I am very disappointed that his handlers are trying to turn him into something else with the du-rags and the facial hair and, pardon me, sh*t. They should let him be the happy boi who competed and made the Universe of Sanjaya, all full of love for everyone, who cried when he lost -- he was loved for those things, and a lot of people entered his universe with him. That Sanjaya -- if they give him a chance -- can succeed, and succeed well. "Yesterday's Sanjaya" indeed.
